The use of electric vehicles is increasing all over the world. After that, some companies have started marketing electric vehicles in Bangladesh. Electric vehicles are still in their infancy in Bangladesh. The number of electric vehicles on the roads is still very small as compared to vehicles running on oil and gas. Recently Audi Bangladesh launched its 'e-tron electric SUV' in the country's market. Many believe that the electric car market will expand in the coming days. Its use will also increase.

Why Electric Cars? Abdullah R Rakib, marketing manager at Progress Motors Imports Ltd, Audi's authorized representative in Bangladesh, said the biggest advantage of electric cars is that they are environment-friendly. Therefore it causes less harm to the environment. Hence global warming, rising fuel prices, black smoke emission and many other problems are solved by electric cars. Dhaka is at the top among the cities of the world. So electric cars can be a big advantage for a city like Dhaka.

When it comes to protecting the environment, electric cars are better than conventional fuel-powered cars. According to Abdullah and Rakib, electric cars are also a long way ahead in terms of efficiency. Electric motors are more efficient than internal combustion engines. That is, with the same amount of power, an electric car can go a long way. Electric cars will be fully charged overnight. So you can start your journey to the destination in the morning without visiting any petrol pump. The first thing that comes to mind while buying a car is the maintenance and fuel cost of the car. Keeping these aspects in mind the cost of electric cars is relatively low.

After buying a car, apart from fuel expenses, a lot of money is also spent on its maintenance. And as time passes, the cost of car maintenance adds up. Engine maintenance costs also increase with the age of the vehicle. These costs are lower in some cases for electric vehicles. However, some everyday expenses, such as auto insurance, structural repairs, brakes, tire changes, etc., apply to both ICEs and electric vehicles. No matter which car you use, you will have to bear these expenses.

For electric vehicles, the battery needs to be a bit more conscious. Use requires replacement of the vehicle's battery pack. This is a huge blow in terms of cost. Electric cars have batteries. Continuous charging can cause battery problems. Then the battery needs to be replaced.

Currently there are no commercial charging stations for charging electric vehicles in Dhaka city. In such a situation, it will be difficult for electric car owners to charge their cars. However, there is a system of charging at the individual level. If these things are easily available then the use of electric vehicles will increase. Recently, the government of Bangladesh has formulated a new automobile policy, which aims to include eco-friendly vehicles in the transport system. The government aims to have at least 15 per cent registered electric vehicles by 2030. The draft Automobile Industry Development Policy-2020 has also recommended a tax holiday for investment in the production of Energy Efficient Vehicles (EEVs).
